A Day of Drawing @ Chanhassen Elementary

If it’s drawing, painting, and cartooning you’re after, then this is the class for you! Join us for a class full of drawing fun! In this introductory drawing class, basic techniques and principles of drawing will be taught. You will master a simple step-by-step drawing method as you create drawings that glow-in-the-dark, artwork that pops out at you, a painting on a real canvas board, and so much more.

Conversational Spanish @ Clover Ridge Elementary

Spanish Level I & II
Build your child’s language foundation!
This lively introduction to the Spanish language used a dynamic, hands-on method of instruction called the Building Block Method of Learning to teach basic Spanish components using songs, games and cultural activities.  Your child will learn how to ask and answer basic questions in Spanish, speak briefly about his or her family, count to 100 and correctly pronounce all Spanish letters.  Using a conversational approach, students will also learn vocabulary related to colors, animals, body parts and clothing and will begin to make complete sentences in Spanish.

Spanish Level II & III (Carver Elementary Only)
Using a conversational approach and our dynamic hands-on instruction, students will learn vocabulary related to colors, animals, body parts, and clothing and will be begin to make complete sentences in Spanish.  Students will also be able to to say months of the year, classroom objects and discuss monthly weather patterns and relate them to a particular season.  Every week a cultural component is also covered in our exciting classes!

Spanish Level III & IV
Take Spanish to the next level!
Students really take Spanish to the next level in this exciting course which allows students to build on previous knowledge to make more complex sentence structures.  For example: Students will be able to say the months of the year, discuss monthly weather patterns and relate them to a particular season.  Additional topics will include classroom objects, birthdays, sports, transportation, the outdoors and places.  By the end of the course students will be able to translate the verb IR and appropriately use Me gusta in various sentences.  A fun instructional method along with fascinating cultural topics ensure that students will also love this class!

Grandmasters of Chess @ Chanhassen Elementary

New and returning students invited. Each {YEL!} Chess class follows four basic components:
•Teach It!…Each class, students are taught different chess concepts and coached to implement those concepts into their chess games
•Practice It!…Students practice positions set by the coach to improve their understanding of the concept.
•Puzzle It!… Students are given chess puzzles (constructed by WIM Serafima Sokolovskaya) and work with coach guidance to solve them.
•Play It!…Each class ends with students playing 20-30 minutes of chess. Coaches often feature in-class tournaments during the session.

Holiday Gift making with Abrakadoodle (grades K-5).  All new gifts! – Get a head start on the holidays with this fun gift making class.  This year you’ll make silly snowmen on canvas board, sculpt gingerbread men or clay ornaments, use chalk to create penguins playing in the snow and more.  These projects are perfect gifts for your friends and family or keep them for yourself!  Our most popular class of the year!  All new gifts for 2018!

Jr. Basketball @ Jonathan Elementary

For K-3rd grades
Fundamentals and fun are in store. Emphasis is placed on basic skills development of dribbling, shooting, passing, sportsmanship and teamwork. We then use engaging and dynamic games to cement students’ growth including our unique three-on-three style game. This is a high-octane class with an inclusive atmosphere. But hurry, the shot-clock is running down!

Jazz Ensemble – CMSE 7th & 8th Grade @ Chaska Middle School East

Jazz band is a great extra-curricular elective where you are able to explore an important American music tradition. You will practice, listen to, and perform many styles of jazz influenced music including: the blues, swing, be-bop, Latin-jazz, funk, rock and more! Jazz band is a great way to improve your musicianship skills on your instrument, play different styles of music, and learn about improvisation! ALL BAND INSTRUMENTS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN JAZZ BAND! If you play guitar, bass, piano or drum set this is a great opportunity for you to enhance your musicianship on those instruments. This course is for 7th and 8th grade students at Chaska Middle School East.

Hip Hop Academy @ Chaska Middle School West

Today’s music is dominated by hip hop and techno dance influences. If you have always wanted to learn how to create this music or maybe you already are, come be part of our Hip Hop Electronic program. During this course, you will have the opportunity to DJ, rap, create electronic music, mash hits or create your own, freestyle, scratch and learn the hip hop and techno dance genres. We will also have an opportunity to perform. Come be a part of the fun.
