Intro to Java Coding @ Jonathan Elementary
Jul 11 @ 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

New Class! Students working on individual computers will be introduced to object-oriented programming and elements of the Java language while learning to code their text-based RPG (Roleplaying Game). No programming experience is necessary, but familiarity with doing common tasks using a computer operating system (text-editing and understanding directory structures) and keyboarding is required. Bring a USB drive, a snack, and a drink each day.

YEL Chess Summer Camp @ Victoria Elementary

Youth Enrichment League’s {YEL!} summer chess camp works with all levels of students.  Beginners learn Piece Movement, Capturing, Check, Checkmate, Castling and more; returning students study intermediate lessons (Pins, Forks, Back Rank Mates, as examples); advanced students will study Elimination of Defense, Opening Theory and other advanced concepts. Artemis Camp @ Lake Minnewashta Regional Park

Ages 8-14

Does your daughter want to be a archer as famous as Katniss Everdeen, skillful as Artemis or just want to put Robin Hood in his place?  Then this camp is her place to train and make new archery friends!  Through fun games and experiential learning, participants will learn range safety and proper techniques for stance, aim, and release to improve their shot.  Campers will get the opportunity to shoot both compound and recurve bows at various target styles.  All equipment is provided.

Campers should come prepared for the weather conditions and should pack a backpack with snacks, reusable water bottle, sunscreen, hat or sun glasses, snack, and close-toed shoes. All other necessary equipment will be provided. Meet at shelter #4. This camp will be held outdoors at Lake Minnewashta Park and is a partnership between Carver County Parks.

Horse Day Camp @ Buck Lake Stables
Jul 17 @ 10:30 am – 3:30 pm

The camp focus is on providing a safe, fun experience for kids who have an interest in horses. The stable provides a great setting for age appropriate horse activities that include riding, caring for horses, games, crafts and having fun! Join us for one or all three!  Bring a water bottle and peanut free lunch and wear heeled shoes/boots. Please see the following schedule:

June 12: Parents will be responsible for drop off and pick up at Camp. (Buck Lake Stables)

July 17 and August 14th: Transportation provided.  Drop off at 10:30 am and pick up at 3:30 pm at the Family Learning Center.

Painter’s Studio @ Family Learning Center
